Following our first edition of the Day Camp: Initiation fly fishing in 2017, we decided to continue this experience. With the theme of Protection and Awareness, this week allows children aged 11 to 17 to learn more about salmon fishing and the resource, as well as making discoveries and pleasant encounters.
Once again this year, it was extraordinary! New friendships and new passions have been created. We could not have had such a great week without the presence of several stakeholders including: the Matamajaw Heritage Fishing Site, the Ministry of Wildlife and Parks (MFFP), the Saumoneau Shop, the Forest and Salmon Museum, Tobique Salmon Club as well as several employees of the CGRMP.
From the history of fishing to the biology of salmon to the art of throwing ... young people had the chance to learn a lot.

Femmes de pêche

Last July, we welcomed 14 women from across Quebec for the day: Women Fishing. The purpose of this adventure was to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and to fraternize, so beginners and experts were invited to come and tease the salmon.
For this day, a guide was on hand to give some advice for those who needed it. Afterwards, the rest of the day was spent practicing or improving our fishing techniques! The CGRMP also offers women fishermen a large tent (for 12 people) to spend the night at Camping Beaurivage Sainte-Florence, near the Matapédia River. The passionate could extend their experience the next day, if they wish.

Last June, the first BBQ activity: Stories of Fishing was held in collaboration with Causapscal's Resto Bar le Bunker.
Located at the Heppel pool, we served big burgers cooked on charcoal.
The perfect end of the day to discuss fishing stories around a small fire.

As promised, in August a surprise awaited fishermen from the public sector of the Matapédia River!
Chance stopped on Samuel. When he thought he was fishing in the public sector, we moved him to the restricted area of Glen Emma.
"Un gros merci encore ce fut un très belle expérience!! Je suis maintenant un mordu de la pêche au saumon"
Chance would have it. After only two fishing experiences, here he is with a beautiful salmon. Congratulations to Samuel and his guide Stéphane!

Today was one of the last releases of our salmon fry. Once again this year, this handsome Richard Adams Foundation project spanning several weeks would not have been possible without the help of the students and teachers who care aquariums. A big thank you to the Deux-Rivières school of Matapédia, Saint-François-D'Assise primary school, Saint-Rosaire de Causapscal, Sainte-Ursule d'Amqui and Saint-Léon-Le-Grand.
